Biosafety Cabinets Class II (Product, Personnel and Environmental Protection):-
This cabinet is specially designed to save the user from all kinds of biological hazards. and equipped with HEPA filters or ULPA filter & Pre-filters to provide filtered air. A Bio-safety cabinet is called by several names in research industry; microbiological safety cabinet, biological safety cabinet (BSC) and Bio- safety hood are such common names which are referred by microbiologists. This type of cabinet is widely used in clinical, hospital, life science, research and pharmaceutical laboratories for drug preparation & chemotherapy testing.
Biological Safety Cabinet range includes a variety of containmentproducts to suit laboratory applications within the academic, pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare, R&D and industrial sectors. Thebiosafety cabinets are classified into three categories Class I, Class II orClass III provides a range of solutions for the containment of category.
Biological Safety Cabinet Purpose:-
In varying degrees, a laminar flow biological safety cabinet is designed to provide three basic types of protection:
1. Personnel protection from harmful agents inside the cabinet.
2. Product protection to avoid contamination of the work, experiment, or process.
3. Environmental protection from contaminants contained within the cabinet.
Classification of Biosafety Cabinets Class II (according to standard NSF/ANSI 49-2008):-
A Class II cabinet must meet requirements for the protection of product, personnel and the environment. In general, cabinets are classified according to the method by which air volumes are recirculated or exhausted, air downflow speed and leakage as below:
Type A1: 70% air recirculated; 30% exhausted from a common plenum to the room; 75FPM intake; may have biologically contaminated positive pressure plenum.
Type A2: 70% air recirculated; 30% exhausted from a common plenum to the room; 100FPM intake; biologically contaminated plenum under negative pressure or surrounded by negative pressure.
Type B1: 30% air recirculated; 70% exhausted from cabinet;exhaust air pulled through dedicated exhaust duct into facility exhaust system;100FPM intake; all biologically contaminated plenums are negative to the room or surrounded by negative pressure plenums.
Type B2: 0% air recirculated; 100% exhausted from cabinet;exhaust air pulled through dedicated exhaust duct into facility exhaust system;100FPM intake; all ducts and plenums are under negative pressure; all contaminated ducts are under negative pressure or surrounded by directly exhausted negative pressure ducts or plenums.
